Athelstone Preschool
Athelstone Kindergarten provides education and care for under school age children, in both a structured and open ended play based learning environment, which is safe, friendly, happy and challenging.
Our aim is that children enjoy learning by engaging in a range of activities that support each child’s development in all the learning and developmental areas as outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework.
Staff recognise each child as being an individual and unique. The programme supports this through:
- Observation and investigation of individual children’s strengths and interests;
- Co-operative planning with parents and staff;
- Anti-bias practice;
- Identification of students at risk and special education support;
- Small and large group experiences with emphasis on early literacy and critical thinking skills.
- Implementing a behaviour management policy that is positive and promotes self worth;
- Maintaining a quality outdoor teaching environment, that promotes the curriculum and reflects the community and family values.
Children attending our Kindergarten will have the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and understandings pertaining to each outcome area.
We believe that child development and learning is a continuum and each child will achieve identified developmental learning outcomes in different, but equally meaningful ways along the continuum.
